Agree with Matt

When I tie my shoes, I make the X right in front of left, i.e. the lace coming from the right side passes closer to me.

If I tie the gi that way, the knot comes out at an angle. I find making the X the other way, left in front of right, and then tying my usual (right-handed) loops, makes the knot come out really nice and horizontal.

Reverse your last crossover
by: Matt

The way I do it is left over right, right over left, but you only have to reverse your second crossover from what you currently do, and it will come out horizontal.

Kendo-Guide.Com: Thank you for your comment. I probably should make a video for this, huh?
