What is the meaning of hassei?

by Anonymous

I encountered the term hassei and found few explanations. What does hassei really mean?

Answer: Thank you for your post.

Hassei is not a kendo term. It is a normal Japanese term meaning "producing a sound" or "vocalizing". So in kendō, it means "kiai" or "shout".

It is also used in ken so if you know this word, you can understand what’s been said by instructors without any interpretation.

Hope this helps.
