Hachidan Kyoshi advice on how to swing in kendo
by: Matt

To paraphrase Tagawa sensei in Detroit;

You have to use your lower power, or forearms when you swing. Your shoulders should just be rotating freely and relaxed.  If you are trying to swing with your back and shoulders, you are swinging incorrectly.

Try swinging relaxed and gently with no power, keeping everything relaxed. As you get used to this all the rest of the power comes from fumi-kiri (fumikomi) and tenouchi.

Kendo-Guide.Com: Thank you for your comment. I often say, ?Just drop your shinai. Don?t even think to swing it down.?
