Metal shinai?

A shodan (Not my teacher, I’m new to this) showed me a metal shinai, and I'm wondering if it's used in normal kendo.

Answer: No. Unless your friend uses it for his suburi (empty cut) training, a metal shinai is not used in kendo. It will kill our training partner. Please do not use it when you do pair work.
