Kendo Dojo in Manila, Philippines?

by Alex Chen
(New York, NY)

Hello Imafuji Sensei: Congratulations for your Website! Unfortunately, it isn’t time yet, but I’m wondering if you’re teaching Kendo in Manila, Philippines? I’m considering retiring there. I did practice some Shotokan Karate before, and 02 months Kendo in Boston, and I have a passion for Kendo! If you’re not, could You recommend a serious Kendo Dojo there? Domo Arigato, Alex Chen.

Kendo-Guide.ComHello Alex Chen San,

Thank you very much for your message.

To answer your question, I do not teach in the Philippines. I am currently based in Indiana, in the United States, where I instruct at the Gotokukan Imafuji Dojo.

It is wonderful that you are considering retiring to the Philippines and that you want to restart your Kendo journey. Your experience with Shotokan Karate and your previous Kendo practice in Boston will be a good foundation for you.

Since I am not in Manila, I cannot recommend a specific dojo. I am connected to many people from the Philippines on my Facebook page, but I do not know which dojos would be suitable for you personally.

In Kendo, it is very important to find a dojo affiliated with the official federation to ensure you receive proper instruction. Therefore, I suggest you first check the United Kendo Federation of the Philippines (UKFP) website and contact them.

I hope you can find a good dojo for you!

Best regards,

Hiro Imafuji
