I really want to learn kendo but there are problems.

(Leicester)

I'm 16 and I am afraid of what others in the dojo might say or think, as I am far from being fit for sport, and am really overweight and slow. I am really scared so I need a bit of help. Thanks a lot.

Answer: Thank you for your question. You really cannot control what others say or think, but you can change how you react to it.

If you are not fit, you will gradually fit by doing kendo. If you want to lose weight, you need to do some more exercise other than kendo since you do not consume enough calories by doing just basics. Also if kendo training is only once or twice a week, it is not enough exercise to burn calories.

You must start from somewhere and now is the time for you because you want to do it now!

You do not have to be great from the start. You start to be great.

Take action. Don’t quit because of what others think or say about you. The most important thing is YOU. And the tougher the thing you go thorough, stronger you will become.

Your life for you, Leicester. Not for others.

If people do not support you with doing kendo, they are not living kendo. They are just exercising with a stick.

Hope this helps.
