Kendo Kata: Nanahon-me

In kata nanahon-me (No.7), shitachi is going to learn men-nuki-dō. Both uchitachi and shitachi take chūdan to start.

What Happens in Kata No.7

Take Chudan

Take Gedan

2.

Take 3 big steps forwards onto the front foot.

Take 3 big steps forwards onto the front foot.

3.

Execute a tsuki at shitachi's chest turning the sword to the left a little bit so the blade is facing down diagonally to the right. 

Like executing a tsuki at Uchitachi, stretch the arms out turning the sword to the right so the blade is facing down diagonally to the left. Almost you are holding the sword of uchitachi up with your sword.

Go back to chūdan. 

Go back to chūdan. 

5.

Take a step forwards onto the left foot and at the same time lift your sword up above your head. And shout "Yeah!". 

When uchitachi takes the first step, lift the sword up towards your left shoulder almost like katsugi waza and at the same time you slide your right foot a little forward diagonally to the right.

6.

Take a big step forward onto the right foot. 

Cut the right of uchitachi stepping onto the left foot. Don't lose your eye contact.

7.

Cut all the way down. 

Take a big step forwards onto the right foot. As kneeling down on the right knee, turn your body towards uchitachi. The sword should end up parallel to the floor or with the kensaki slightly lower. Immediately take waki-gamae.

As shitachi taking waki-gamae, you turn your head and look at shitachi

Wait until uchitachi makes the next move.

9.

Lift up the sword big above your head and turn to the left pivoting on the right foot, and take chūdan.

As uchitachi lifts up the sword, you lift up the sword and twist back your body straight towards your opponent and take chūdan.

10.

Take a step back onto the left foot like pulling up shitachi as shitachi gets up with a full of ki energy.

Get up stepping forwards onto the right foot with a full of ki energy like  pushing back uchitachi.

11.

Rotate back to the centre onto the left foot.

12.

Sit in sonkyo and take 5 small backwards onto the left foot.

Sit in sonkyo and take 5 small backwards onto the left foot.
