Kendo for LIFE

Kendo-Guide.Com Newsletter, Issue #037 - Kendo Shops Review

Thank you for reading the Kendo-Guide.Com Newsletter, Issue #037.

How's it going? My little daughter just turned 1 year old. I cannot believe that one year ago all she could do was to lie down quietly.

Now she's walking around (almost running around!) and points at things to tell us what she wants and all. I just cannot believe how fast she can learn and accomplish things.

Of course, who knows how many times she fell down and over hit her knees and head. But she did not quit coming back up and walking again.

And 11 months after she was born, she started walking. And after more falling-downs for one month, she is really walking.

What I learned?

Never give up!

Fall (fail) as much as we can at the beginning and one year later we can get the hang of it!

I had always wanted to establish kendo shop review pages for a long time and finally I did it!

The main reason why I wanted to do it was that I met a lot of people who were using non-kendo bokuto or fake shinai. I mean I was so shocked!

You might say, "Well, it is only bokuto (or shinai). What is the big deal?"

It is a BIG deal!. The bokuto I saw had long tsuka or extremely fat tsuka. Those bokuto will develop bad habits for sure. In fact, many could not grab their bokuto with the fat tsuka in the right way.

Fake shinai could hurt our kendo members. When I saw these shinai looking bamboo sticks, I was lost for words. You would not want to be hit with these shinai for sure. I am sure they would shatter or break into pieces after a few strikes.

And I always hate it when I have to tell my students, "you bought a wrong bokuto (shinai)". They are all excited with having their own bokuto or shinai, but when they hear what I have to say they look so sad.

I just don't want to see another sad face because of these martial arts shops selling non-kendo stuff.

Of course, there are good martial arts shops but how do we know?

I can tell the difference between real kendo stuff and the fake ones but not everyone can.

So I need your help. Recommend your kendo shop you buy your kendo stuff from using this form.
