Shinai Length

I recently purchased a Shinai online. The store said it was 46 inches in total. On this website, on the section about the Shinai lengths, is it the total (blade + handle) or just the blade?

Answer: That is a good question. Thank you for asking.

The shinai length (regulated by International Kendo Federation) is the total length (blade + handle) and with saki-gawa* and tsuka-gawa on.

The shinai weight does not include a tsuba (hand-guard).

Saki-gawa is a leather part on the tip of shinai.
Tsuka-gawa is a leather part on the handle.
