Proper Men Strike

When coming down for a men strike, do you reach out with your arms or bring arms down? Something so simple is very complex, lol.

Thank you and I have enjoyed this website by the way. I am a beginner in Kendo at Sen Shin Kan in Oklahoma City.

Answer: Thank you for your question and I'm sorry for the delay of my reply.

This is very hard to explain without showing you the actual movements but I'll try.

First of all, you have to listen to your teacher. Basically there are two different instructions on this matter.

1. Stretch out your both arms when you strike men.

2. Both arms should be bent slightly. Your shoulders should be down and the elbows should be down too.

What I have learnt is No.2. Please take a look at this page, Men Strike: Basic Men Training for Beginners. This patient has some pictures and explanations.

Hope this helps.
