Less Wasted Movement

by Jeung Woo Hong
(Cypress)

In kendo, I feel like most of my movement is just a waste. So, how do I lessen that waste?

Answer: Thank you for your question. It depends on your level.

You need to waste your movements so you will know what movements are necessary. Once you know, your kendo will be more sophisticated.

So what you think unnecessary may be necessary for you at the current level. And as you train more, you will be able to shave off unnecessary movements.

Mind you though. Sometimes what you think unnecessary may be necessary in the future again. That is why we should keep training and thinking. Also changing our kendō all the time is a “must-do” experiment for our growth.

Hope this helps.
