Kyu Exam abroad?

by Tabitha
(Japan)

I read, on the homepage of Swiss Kendo, that kyu exams cannot be passed in other countries.

What does that mean? And why is it like that?

I started with Kendo when I came to Japan. I'm here for one year. My Sensei told me to take the 1 Kyu exam. I believe that if he says I'm ready, I'm ready.

I started around 2 months ago and the exam will be next month. But that has not really something to do with my question.

I hope you can help me :)

Have a nice day.

Answer: Thank you for your question. I am not sure what that means by “kyu exams cannot be passed in other countries”. You should check with the Swiss Kendo Federation.

Since Swiss Kendo Federation is under International Kendo Federation and so is All Japan Kendo Federation, the kyu should be accepted.

That means you are 1 kyu in Switzerland if you are 1 kyu in Japan.

However, Swiss Kendo Federation might have their own rules and regulations so you should check with them.

Hope this helps.
