I am a beginner in learning Kendo. I would like to know is there any need to some special physical practice in order to preparing for doing Kendo? In other word, if I need to strength my muscle or do some exercises to get more flexible body?

Thank you.

Answer: Thank you for your question! You don't really need special exercises but you probably should do some exercises including stretches.

Kendo is actually harder than it looks. What I suggest you should do is to do just the basic exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, squats and so forth. You will learnthe kendo movements later so when you practice the movements you will develop certain muscles for kendo.

If you are strong enough, you can go hit the gym. But since I don't really know about your strength, I cannot give you a specific advice on that.

Maybe I should introduce some basic exercises that help you and others to practice kendo!

But for now, just do the basic exercises. Don't do too much at once. Gradual improvement is always good!

Hope this helps.
