Is it normal to have the bars that go across my head on my men?

by rio

I’m a newbie to kendo and my sensei let me use a club bogu. When I put my men on, there always seems to be one of the bars from the men going through my vision. Is that because the bogu isn’t fitted to me or is that normal?

Answer: No, it is not normal. A gap around the 6th or 7th bar from the top is wider. That is called “monomi” and you should see your opponent through “monomi”. Either that bogu doesn’t fit you or you put it on funny.

Make sure that you put it on as you can see through the monomi gap. If you think men does not fit you, talk to your sensei and get another men.
