Increase Fumikomi Power

by Gabriel Paredes
(Lima-Peru)

I want to know how to improve my push off in Kendo. I mean the impulse of the fumikomi.

Answer: To increase the power/impulse of fumikomi, you need to work on not only the kick of your left foot but also the pulling-up motion by your right foot.

Many people tend to use the right foot only to make a huge bang noise. But the right foot is very important to increase the force created by the kick of the left foot. There are a few articles dedicated to fumikomi:

After reading the articles and have more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Hope these help.

Pull up force
by: J. Villaran

By "right leg pulling up force" you mean:

a) Increasing the force of the right leg after the fumikomi (like stepping on stairs, pulling the body up) in order to have a powerful entrance

or

b) Pulling up and forward your right knee and leg in order to reach a longer distance?

Thank you for your reply

Answer: a) is the answer for your question.

Once you launch your strike, how far you can jump in is up to how strong you kick the floor with the left foot. Pulling your body up and forwards with the right leg/knee helps to maintain and increase the power of your fomikomi.

In order to reach further, the left kick has to be strong and we have to take a big step forwards on fumikomi.
