Break Out of Solo Practice

To learn Kendo when there is not a dojo around is a sure extreme commitment test. Luckily enough, we have plenty of information on Internet that can help at giving an idea about what to do.

I strongly recommend making Kendo-guide your online dojo and also visiting the All Japan Kendo Federation website (AJKF), kendo World website.

But overall try to get a copy of the AJKF instructional videos (YouTube, and Hiro Imafuji sensei's video collection) and books from the public library.

In few words, gather as much information as you can, study it but overall try to find a kendo mate/partner to intensely practice with.

On time you will develop a basis to build upon by when the opportunity strikes to visit a dojo. Give yourself some time of continuous practice and plan on visiting the closest out-of-town dojo you could go for "degeiko" practice.

Make sure you contact them before your visit and honestly explain where your kendo comes from. By personal experience I assure you that most, if not all kendo dojos affiliated to the federation, will surely welcome your visit since they follow the Concept of Kendo which states:"...To hold in esteem human courtesy and honor, To associate with others with sincerity, And to forever pursue the cultivation of oneself...."
