First I would like to say that I love your site and some stuff I have read here help me improve my kendo. :D

Second, can you tell me how should I clean my bogu? Especially kote and men, because they smell the worst.

Thank you so much in advance for answering my question.

Answer: thank you for your question. And also how like to thank you for your kind words. I am glad that my website is helping you to improve your kendo.

Now about the smell. Even though it is very hard to remove the smell, the first thing you must do is to keep it dry.

Find a place where it is well ventilated. Avoid the direct sunlight. By doing so, you can keep your equipment including Keikogi and Hakama from bacteria growing.

If you don't have enough time between trainings, you probably need two or more sets of armour (at least kote and men) and Keikogi and Hakama.

The key is keep them dry all the time. Keeping them wet is the main cause of smell and also will grow mold.

In Japan, they now have bogu cleaning but unless you are in Japan, probably you cannot use the service.

There is an article talking about removing the smell so you probably when I read that too. “How to get rid of kote smell? Can I wash kote?”
